Battle Dawn is a turn-based game. A tick occurs once every hour, half-an-hour, twenty minutes, fifteen minutes, or ten minutes depending on which world you are playing on, in which the world advances: Resources are gained, squads move, units are trained, battles take place and your score updates. You can check how many ticks have passed on your server by looking in the top-right corner of the resource bar:
Sending a squad takes ticks too: depending on how far your destination is, the squad travel time will increase. A classic example would be sending your squads to attack a target 12 ticks away – you submit your order and every tick your squad advances by 1 till they reach their destination 12 ticks later..
Ticks advance regardless of whether or not you're logged in. To play the game you're advised to login at least once a day to check your colony's status, it's not necessary to log in every tick but the more active you are the more micromanaging you can to do improve your chances of success.
Server Tick Speeds
When you are choosing a server make sure to check out the speed of that server under the "Speed" column; Battle Dawn server speed is shown in Ticks/hr. A speed of 1 tick/hr means that every 60 minutes a tick passes, a speed of 6 ticks/hr would equal 1 tick every 10 minutes. Currently worlds will have a speed of anywhere from 1 to 6 ticks/hr.
Depending on who you talk to players refer to the different speeds as Single(1 tick/hr), Double(2 ticks/hr), Triple(3 ticks/hr), Quadruple(4 ticks/hr) and speed worlds(6 ticks/hr).
